Yopo Seeds - Anadenanthera peregrina

Anadenanthera peregrina is a tree that is also known by the names Yopo, Cohoba, Mopo, Nopo, Calcium Tree and Parica. Snuff made from Anadenanthera peregrina is called Yopo and it is used in healing ceremonies and rituals throughout the South America.

The flowers of Anadenanthera peregrina are spherical and white yellowish. The seeds and seed pods contain poisonous tryptamine derivatives which are the active ingredient causing spiritual hallucinations.

With high doses such as over three seeds it is common for Yopo to cause dizziness, vomiting and headache. The effect is usually a dream-like psychodelic high which lasts about half an hour.

Hops - Humulus lupulus

Humulus lupulus is a vine from the Cannabaceae family. It is also known by the name Hop. Hops are used to flavor food products, especially when brewing beer. Humulus lupulus has a long history of use among the Native Americans.

Hops contains substances asparagin, humulone, lupulone, and lupulin. Asparagin is a diuretic and humulone and lupulone are antibacterial agents. Lupulin has sedative properties and it is also said to have aphrodisiac like properties. Lupulin can be found from the hairs of the fruit.

The flowers of Humulus lupulus can be smoked, but most of the time it is used as an infusion. The hops fruit was used as an medicine for swellings and ulcers.
